Habitat Creation

Members of our team have a background in countryside management, and have worked as Park Rangers and Country Park Managers. This practical knowledge and experience has been used in many projects undertaken by Ethos to develop innovative habitat restoration schemes and find practical solutions to mitigating impacts on protected species.

Our experience has included the creation and restoration of ponds, woodland, wildflower meadows and river habitats. This has included the preparation of designs and management plans, as well as providing training and advice to site managers to ensure the long term value of the habitats created.

Ethos also has extensive experience of designing mitigation, compensation and enhancements for protected species, from simple specification and location plans for bird and bat boxes to more complex programmes of landscape management and habitat creation for species such as bats, dormouse, birds and badgers.

Habitat Management and clearance

Using our experience in environmental conservation, we have a core team who undertake practical habitat works. This includes scrub clearance, tree works, hedgerow management, pond clearance and grassland management. Our team have both the practical skills and ecological knowledge to ensure that works are undertaken following good practice, at the correct time of year and of course legally! By having people working on the ground who have this range of skills can offer significant savings for clients, as it can often negate the need for works to be supervised by an Ecological Clerk of Works.

Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)

For those projects that do require an ECoW, we have a team of ecologists who can supervise and oversee works where there may be ecological sensitivities. We take a very practical approach and understand the needs of construction projects, thus ensuring that ecology matters are dealt with positively rather than being an inconvenience. We will ensure that projects are delivered in line with any planning conditions and legislative requirements. This includes the preparation of relevant documentation, supervising works on site and providing appropriate sign off reports as required.
